A Apple revelou em São Francisco, na Califórnia, o iPhone 5. O smartphone é 18% mais fino que o seu antecessor, contando com 7,6 milímetros de espessura, e só pesa 112 gramas (menos 20% que o iPhone 4S). Como é habitual, está disponível apenas em duas cores: preto ou branco. 

A Apple aproveitou para efetuar uma atualização do sistema operativo - iOS, mas a marca da maça garante a total compatibilidade com as anteriores aplicações. O iOS 6 reformula a aplicação de mapas que deixa de ser do Google e passa a ser da própria Apple, além que permite ver os mapas em 3D. 

O Safari, o browser da Apple, tem agora um novo modo de ecrã completo que tira todo o partido da dimensão de ecrã do iPhone 5.

A bateria do iPhone 5 está preparada para suportar oito horas de navegação na Net em 3G ou 4G; 10 horas de navegação na Net em Wi-Fi ou vídeo; e 40 horas de música. Em standby tem energia para 225 horas.

O novo telemóvel está equipado com uma câmara de 8MP com a resolução de 3264 X 2448 pixéis, e grava vídeo em 1080p. Ainda na câmara da retaguarda, destaque para a inclusão de uma funcionalidade de captação de fotos de panorama. Há ainda uma câmara frontal que permite fazer gravação de vídeo em Alta Definição. 

O preço indicativo para o mercado dos Estados Unidos é de 299 dólares para o iPhone de 32 GB e 399 dólares para o de 64 GB. O smartphone de 16 GB custa 199 dólares. Os preços avançados obrigam a um contrato de fidelização de dois anos.
