A Casa Branca recusou na terça-feira a proposta dos republicanos na Câmara dos Representantes de financiar com leis individuais diversas áreas do Governo Federal e permitir assim uma reabertura faseada dos serviços.

Em comunicado, a porta-voz da Presidência, Amy Brundage, garantiu que o Presidente, Barack Obama, vai vetar esse tipo de propostas para financiar apenas algumas despesas, como as relativas aos veteranos de guerra, os parques nacionais ou o aparelho burocrático em Washington.

Brundage acrescentou que o Presidente e o Senado deixaram claro que propostas orçamentais parciais não são a forma de resolver o bloqueio político que levou ao encerramento de serviços governamentais e deixaram claro que "não aceitam jogar este jogo".

 

A incapacidade do Congresso dos EUA em aprovar um orçamento radica nas divisões internas do Partido Republicano, puxado para a direita do espectro político por um conjunto de eleitos do 'Tea Party', que defendem uma oposição dura.

Depois da vaga eleitoral nas legislativas de novembro de 2010, os republicanos reconquistaram a maioria na Câmara dos Representantes, mas esta nova maioria veio a revelar-se indisciplinada.

O presidente da Câmara, John Boehner, subiu pacientemente, desde a sua primeira eleição em 1990, todos os escalões até chegar a este cargo, em janeiro de 2011.
