A segunda semana do Rock in Rio começou na noite de quinta-feira com uma união do metal dos brasileiros Sepultura com o batuque do Tambours du Bronx, e o português DJ Ride a abrir a tenda eletrónica. No palco principal, brilharam Alce in Chains e os Matallica.

No palco Mundo, a principal banda de metal brasileira iniciou sua apresentação com a canção "Kaiowas", lançada nos anos 1990, em referência à tribo indígena com o mesmo nome, actualmente ameaçada de extinção.

No final da canção, um vídeo que mostrava os índios fez referência à polémica central de Belo Monte, em um claro protesto contra a hidrelétrica que está a ser construída no norte do Brasil.

Na música seguinte, mais protestos com "Refuse-Resist" tocada com imagens das manifestações de rua ocorridas recentemente no Brasil.

Depois subiu ao palco Mundo a banda sueca Ghost B.C, com uma apresentação performática com os músicos a entrarem mascarados e encapuzados, com direito a uma "missa satânica", encabeçada pelo vocalista que se autoproclama "Papa Emeritus".

A presença portuguesa da noite ficou por conta do DJ Ride, que abriu a tenda eletrónica, localizada no final da Rock Street, e que atraiu centenas de pessoas.

O músico, de 28 anos, foi campeão mundial de "scratch" em 2011, em concurso realizado pela IDA (Associação Internacional de Disc-Jockeys), em Cracóvia, Polônia.

No sábado será a vez do também português DJ Vibe agitar a pista eletrónica.

The Gift apresenta-se hoje

A banda portuguesa The Gift será responsável por abrir esta tarde, no Rio de Janeiro, a programação do palco alternativo do Rock in Rio, numa apresentação conjunta com o grupo de percussão brasileiro Afrolata.

No palco secundário, a jovem Mallu Magalhães tem também atuação marcada com a Banda Ouro Negro, seguida pela cantora norte-americana Grace Potter e sua banda, The Nocturnals, que tocarão com o músico e surfista Donavon Frankenreiter, que tem sido comparado ao estilo musical de Jack Johnson.

O cantor californiano Ben Harper fecha a programação da arena alternativa.
